| Breaking News | | Sunday, October 12th, 2031: Oakland Loses James The Oakland Athletics got some bad news when the team learned that Michael James was likely to be out for 3-4 weeks after he injured himself throwing a pitch in today's game against the Minnesota Twins. A round of tests by the team doctors revealed the injury to be a strained bicep muscle. Upon learning of their diagnosis, the Oakland manager told the press, "As you all know, we can't control injuries -- they are a part of the game. We just have to do the best we can until Michael is back in action."
In 2031 James has compiled a 14-5 mark with a 3.19 ERA in 32 starts. In pitching 226 innings he has 167 strikeouts and 39 walks while limiting the opposition to a .243 batting average. | | Thursday, October 2nd, 2031: Blevins Blisters Kansas City Chet Blevins was on quite a roll today as he knocked the ball all over the park, collecting 5 hits and leading the Athletics to a 11-4 victory over the Kansas City Royals.
After the first three hits, all eyes in the ballpark were drawn to him each time he stepped into the batter's box. Even a few of the opposing fans were pulling for him, knowing they were watching a little baseball-hitting history unfold.
In the clubhouse, crowded by reporters, the Oakland second baseman said, "I never realized that batting a little ball around could cause so much commotion." When asked what the secret of hitting so well is, he smiled and replied, "The key to hitting for a high average is to relax, concentrate and hit the ball where they ain't."
Nobody was at home today as Blevins finished the day with 5 hits in 5 at-bats and a line in the record book.
C. Blevins singled in the 2nd, hit an RBI double in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and hit an RBI single in the 9th.
In 102 games this season Blevins has batted at a .316 pace with 95 hits and 4 home runs. | | Tuesday, September 30th, 2031: Shave Whitewashes Athletics All went well for Alfred Shave of the Kansas City Royals as he pitched his team to a 2-0 shutout victory over the Oakland Athletics, limiting them to 4 hits while ringing up 10 strikeouts and surrendering 2 walks.
In the postgame interview, both managers had glowing things to say about Shave.
His manager described him this way: "He's got a good selection of pitches he can throw at a guy. He changes speed, gives different looks to different hitters. When he's on his game, he's quite a handful."
The Oakland skipper said, "He doesn't give you anything twice. It's a guessing game with him and today my club was always guessing wrong."
Checking out his stats for the season, Shave has racked up 16 wins and 13 losses in 33 starts, 3.70 ERA and struck out 258 batters in 226 innings. | | | Injuries | | Player | Injury | Out for... | Disabled List Status | | P Gonzalo Salazar | torn back muscle | 3 weeks | Not on DL | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 91-72, .558 PCT | | Position in Division | 2nd, 12.5 GB | | Record at home | 56-25, .691 PCT | | Record on the road | 35-47, .427 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 7-10, .412 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 29-31, .483 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 14-15, .483 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 77-57, .575 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 7-3, .700 PCT | | Record in April | 9-13, .409 PCT | | Record in May | 14-15, .483 PCT | | Record in June | 19-8, .704 PCT | | Record in July | 15-11, .577 PCT | | Record in August | 17-12, .586 PCT | | Record in September | 15-12, .556 PCT | | Record in October | 2-1, .667 PCT |
