In the elimination game today at Tim Hortons Centre, the Storm polished off Seattle 9-3 to win the Hickory Baseball League championship.
In the National League Central Division pennant race, Calgary compiled a 116-46 record and came in first. | | Thursday, October 2nd, 2031: Acuña Tags 3 HR Against Mariners Alin Acuña, the Baltimore shortstop, put on a dazzling display of power today at Oriole Park at Camden Yards against the Seattle Mariners. In the 8-5 victory Acuña penned his name into the record books, slamming a trio of home runs in one of baseball's finest single day efforts.
What a display it was -- three home runs, 3 hits in 4 at-bats, 7 RBIs and 3 runs scored. It certainly was a day for the league record books.
"He can hit them out anywhere, right, center, left, it doesn't matter," the Seattle manager said. "He's super strong and stays on the ball so good."
Talking about his theory of hitting after the game, Acuña said, "Life will always throw you curves, just keep fouling them off... the right pitch will come and when it does, be prepared to run the bases... or trot around the bases... like I did today."
So says the latest person to hit three homers in a game.
A. Acuña hit a three-run home run off G. García in the 1st, grounded out in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off G. García in the 5th and hit a three-run home run off P. Nieves in the 7th.
So far this season Acuña has hit .292 with 48 home runs, 148 RBIs and and scored 106 times. | | | Injuries | | Player | Injury | Out for... | Disabled List Status | | P Yasujiro Kumatani | torn tricep muscle | 7 weeks | Not on DL | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 103-59, .636 PCT | | Position in Division | 1st, - GB | | Record at home | 54-27, .667 PCT | | Record on the road | 49-32, .605 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 7-9, .438 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 29-23, .558 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 19-11, .633 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 84-48, .636 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 2-8, .200 PCT | | Record in April | 15-7, .682 PCT | | Record in May | 21-8, .724 PCT | | Record in June | 15-12, .556 PCT | | Record in July | 22-4, .846 PCT | | Record in August | 17-12, .586 PCT | | Record in September | 13-14, .481 PCT | | Record in October | 0-2, .000 PCT |
