| Breaking News | | Monday, May 14th, 2029: Gómez Twirls Suns to Shutout Win The Springfield Cardinals were almost helpless today in their 4-0 loss to Jacksonville hurler David Gómez. He kept them confused the entire ballgame and spun a 4-hit shutout.
The Springfield manager said in the postgame interview, "Tip your hat to Gómez. He kept us off balance all night."
Gómez said, "It just happened to be one of those games where even when I made mistakes, they either fouled them off or someone would make a fine defensive play. It was just one of those games that things went my way."
He had 2 walks and 8 strikeouts in a strong performance.
In 9 starts this year Gómez has crafted a 4-4 record and a 4.14 ERA. | | Monday, May 14th, 2029: Week's Top Performer Honored by NL So far in his young career, Augusto Quintero has kept a low profile, but after his performance at the plate last week, he attracted the notice of the rest of the National League in a big way as he was named the Player of the Week today for his efforts.
The 23-year-old Jacksonville Suns right fielder hit at a torrid .417 clip as he collected 10 hits in 24 at-bats, 2 home runs, 7 RBIs and 5 runs scored.

"Mercado certainly pitched a strong game against us today. He was in a groove, throwing everything for strikes. Throwing hard. Changing speeds."
Connecticut starter Ismael Mercado tamed the Jacksonville Suns 5-0 with a 6-hit shutout, finishing the game with 6 strikeouts and 1 walk in a sharp outing.
"I enjoy facing a team like that where I can get an out on one, two or three pitches," Mercado said. "It gives me a chance to be a lot more aggressive."
Mercado has gone 4-3 this season with an ERA of 1.95 and 54 strikeouts in 50.2 innings pitched. Other clubs are hitting .202 against him. | | | Injuries | | Player | Injury | Out for... | Disabled List Status | | 3B Jorge Icaza | fractured cheekbone | 3 weeks | Not on DL | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 45-58, .437 PCT | | Position in Division | 4th, 12.0 GB | | Record at home | 27-27, .500 PCT | | Record on the road | 18-31, .367 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 5-1, .833 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 15-15, .500 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 15-19, .441 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 30-39, .435 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 4-6, .400 PCT | | Record in April | 13-15, .464 PCT | | Record in May | 13-16, .448 PCT | | Record in June | 11-14, .440 PCT | | Record in July | 8-13, .381 PCT |
