| Breaking News | | Wednesday, July 18th, 2029: Cardinals Goldstein Spins Perfect Game The "Impossible Dream" occurred today. Greg Goldstein of the Springfield Cardinals secured a place for himself in league history, defeating the Corpus Christi Hooks 4-0 in a perfect game. -- "a no-hit, no-run, no-man-reach-first" game. That's one of the rarest of the rare.
In the postgame interview on BNN he said, "I knew what was going on, I was hoping the fans would kind of shush a little bit. They were making me nervous."
His batterymate said Goldstein could smell it at the end. "He was that confident, he was that good."
When his perfect day on the mound ended, he pumped his fist twice at the ground as he was swarmed by his teammates. He made his way off the field to a standing ovation from the crowd and with a final wave to the fans he disappeared into the clubhouse.
On his history-making day at Cockroaches Ballpark Goldstein walked nobody and struck out 8.
When his dad walked into the clubhouse after the game, he walked over and asked the elated Goldstein, "I got here late, what happened?"
"What? You didn't see the game?" Goldstein blurted out.
His dad was kidding, of course. He had watched the whole game... the whole perfect game.
In 2029 Goldstein has fashioned a 7-6 mark, 2.69 ERA and pitched 110.1 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .212 against him and he has logged 59 strikeouts. | | Wednesday, July 11th, 2029: 2B Unknown Given 7-Game Suspension The Springfield Cardinals were not very happy with the home plate umpire in today's 7-0 loss to Tulsa at Cockroaches Ballpark. One in particular -- Joe Unknown. Upon being called out on strikes, the Cardinals second baseman gave the ump quite an earful. For that, the man in blue gave him the thumb and sent him to an early shower.
But the disgruntled Unknown lingered on the field for another five minutes berating the umpire. Finally his manager got him off the field and into the clubhouse.
But it got worse after the game, when Unknown told reporters, "He was blind today. They played 'Three Blind Mice' for him. If he doesn't know the words to the song, I'm sure we can get it in braille, so he can follow along."
For all of his escapades and after-the-game oration, the league office suspended Unknown for 7 games.
