Portland rode the magical arm of Russ Birkland in a 4-0 shutout win over Memphis. He shackled them on 4 hits and fanned 4. Almost to a man, the Memphis Redbirds said he had them guessing wrong all game long.
In 9 starts this year Birkland has recorded a 3-4 record and a 2.34 ERA.

 | Sunday, July 1st, 2029: NL Honors Estevez, Best Hitter in June
Francisco Estevez is not used to being associated with Batter of the Month-caliber players, but today the Memphis catcher joined that select company when the National League announced the results of June's voting.
Estevez totaled 39 hits, 7 walks, 10 home runs, 35 RBIs and 23 runs scored last month to put together a .424 batting average and .451 on-base percentage.
This year Estevez has 13 home runs and a .322 batting average.

| Monday, June 25th, 2029: Estevez Picked NL Player of the Week
It was announced today that Memphis catcher Francisco Estevez was selected the National League Player of the Week Award for his superb play last week.
During the week he compiled a .478 batting average (11-23) with 4 home runs, 12 runs batted in and scored 8 runs.
This year Estevez is batting .333 with 12 home runs.
